ABOUT US

Dr. Frank G. Brooks and a group of his students founded Beta Beta Beta in 1922 at Oklahoma City University. Since its founding, the society has accepted more than 200,000 persons into lifetime membership, and it has established more than 553 chapters throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. Tri-Beta formally defines itself as “an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences,” dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending the boundaries of knowledge through scientific research.

Gerald Gracia (class of 1997) was the student founder of the Tau Phi Chapter at North Carolina A&T State University in 1996. The Charter members included ten regular members, thirteen faculty members and ten associates. Tau Phi selects members according to the rule of the constitution of the National Society. Undergraduates selected for regular membership show great interest in biology and display superior academic achievement. These students have completed at least one term of the second year and have three terms of biology with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in the field. Associate members are undergraduates who show outstanding interest and potential in the life sciences in significant way. Graduate members are graduate students enrolled in life sciences or faculty members in biology.
